RESOLVED: Wired and wireless network unavailable at Brown Building due to flooding

Resolved - March 7, 10:20 am Network connectivity has been restored.

Original announcement - March 7, 10:00 am:Wired and wireless network connectivity are currently unavailable in the Brown Building due to a flood in the basement.

RESOLVED: Wired and wireless network unavailable at University Centre (Shatner) and McTavish buildings

Network access was restored in Peterson Hall, University Centre and other buildings on McTavish, as of early Tuesday morning, March 7.

Update - Monday, March 6, 2017 at 4:30 pm IT services has placed a battery in Peterson Hall to provide network access in the affected buildings until around 8:00 pm this evening. Tomorrow, when power in the University Centre is restored, netowrk connectivity should return to normal.

Phishing scam: "Library Account"

There is a phishing email circulating to users with the subject "Library Account". This email prompts users to re-new their McGill account information in order not to lose access to library and other campus services. Users are asked to click on a fraudulent link to update their account information. See an example of this phishing message below.

IT Security Reminder: Log off after using computers on campus

McGill IT Services would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of logging off from your Windows session on all campus computers, including podium PCs used during teaching sessions.

Leaving a computer with your personal Windows session open can allow subsequent users to access your McGill personal network storage (e.g. your P: or R: drive) and to open and send email messages from your McGill email account using the Outlook application on that computer.

If you ride the inter-campus shuttle bus, you have to check out the Shuttle Bus Tracker. It's a mobile-friendly website that uses Google Maps to show the location and speed of each bus along its route.

Mac users: New key required to extend Trend Antivirus license through 2017

Update: December 30, 2016 We have received word that the vendor has not been able to extend the old license key. If you have Trend for Mac installed and you see a message saying the "Trial Expires on December 31", you will need to enter a new license key to activate it for 2017. Please follow the instructions in step 2 of the article Install Trend Micro Antivirus for Mac.
