Software Licensing site maintenance - June 5

McGill's Software Licensing site will undergo a scheduled maintenance operation on Thursday, June 5, between 7 - 10am. The system will be unavailable during this period. 

The Software Licensing site is part of McGill's campus software program, providing easy access to centrally licensed software used in teaching, research and administration at the University.

Telephone scam claiming to be from WestJet or Air Canada

Please be advised of a telephone scam claiming to be from WestJet or Air Canada telling you that you won "points/miles" or you are a "perferred customer". The call might look like it is coming from a McGill phone number. This is a scam and you have not won anything. This is an attempt to steal your personal information. Simply hang up the phone if you receive one of these calls.

IT Security Alert: Phishing Scam - "Mcgill.ca UPDATE"

A phishing attempt is circulating, with the Subject line: "Mcgill.ca UPDTATE". The message text states "shutting down some accounts due to congestion", and asks you to click on a link to "UPDATE".

Please delete this email immediately! Do not click on the link. It does NOT come from a McGill source.

It is a fraudulent attempt to gain access to your personal information. McGill never solicits any such information by email.

Back in April, you may have heard of the Heartbleed vulnerability and its potential impact on McGill. All of McGill’s central IT systems have been evaluated, and updates were applied where needed. Since it is always a good practice to periodically change passwords, we encourage you to reset your McGill Password at this time.

Inter-campus bus & residences wireless maintenance: Wednesday, May 14

Update: Security vulnerability in Internet Explorer could allow remote code execution

Update: May 5, 2014
Last week Microsoft released a Windows update to address the security vulnerability in Internet Explorer.  This update was remotely deployed to McGill's centrally-supported computers on Friday, May 2 via the Campus Windows Server Update System (WSUS). Note that Microsoft made the decision to also offer the update for Windows XP. You may be prompted to restart your computer.

uApply (Graduate Admissions System) maintenance - June 25

The uApply system will undergo a scheduled maintenance operation Wednesday, June 25, between 4 pm and 6 pm. The system will be unavailable during this period. 

uApply is the system used by applicants to McGill graduate programs and by admissions staff to process those applications.
