There is a new virus circulating through McGill's email system. Do not open attachments coming from a bogus @mcgill.ca email address such as webmaster [at] mcgill [dot] ca or from the "Mcgill Support Team" telling you that "Your account has been suspended" or that your "Password has been successfully changed."
This is an important notice intended for all McGill students. As of January 1, 2004, the University-wide "Policy on Email Communication with Students" comes into effect. Email will be recognized as one of the official means of communication between McGill University and its students.
We are experiencing problems with myMcGill Web Portal this morning. Check back here for updates.
McGill's administrative systems, Minerva and Banner, will not be available from 10 pm on March 3 to 10 am on March 4.
We are planning to have a major inspection on the two Powerware 160 UPSs in the NCS computer room. To perform the inspection, each unit is taken offline and power is provided at that point only by Hydro-Québec. The movement of the units offline is done without any interruption in electricity, hence will not affect any servers or central systems housed in our computer room. The inspection takes about 2 hours per unit. We have done these inspections yearly for the last six years and the operation will be performed by our UPS supplier. Although the risk is low, any Hydro problems during the inspection may affect the servers and major services housed in our computer room. Following Facilities Management advice, we will have the building generator on standby to kick in should we encounter problems with Hydro. This might cause reboots of some servers and temporary interruptions of service. Please contact the NCS operations supervisor at opsupv [dot] ncs [at] mcgill [dot] ca or at 398-3690 if you have any questions about this work.
Some systems, including Active Directory (AD), are experiencing technical difficulties. Please remain patient while the problem is investigated and resolved.
