One of society’s key challenges is sustainably meeting coupled demands for quality of life and economic growth.
To achieve that end, scientists, decision-makers and professionals of all kinds are working to improve people’s standards of living through innovative technologies, design concepts and planning approaches that promote sustainability in energy, materials, water, food and waste production.
The McGill Faculty of Engineering established a multidisciplinary Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design (ISEAD) in the fall of 2010 to address this increasingly important aspect of technological development and better prepare coming generations of engineers, architects and urban planners for the role they will play in meeting society’s sustainability needs.
The Institute’s two-pronged mandate is to embed a culture of sustainability at the Faculty of Engineering ― and across McGill ― and to work with academic, industry and government partners to promote sustainable principles and practices across Canada and abroad.
