Rolling Admissions and International PhD Tuition Fees

Please note that IPN runs a rolling admissions system. Prospective students are considered for admission as soon as their application is complete. Admissions and eligibility for IPN's Recruitment Awards are reviewed on a first come, first served basis; don't wait until the deadline to apply to IPN!

IPN will cover the tuition fee differential between International and Canadian Ph.D. students, as done previously under the MIDAs program.

Applicants

Application Deadlines:

For September Admissions:

  • International Applicants - 15 March
  • Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents - 1 June

For Rotation Program Admissions (For entry in September of following year):

  • December 15

For January Admissions:

  • International Applicants - 15 September
  • Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents - 15 October

No Spring or Summer Admissions.

M.Sc.

(1) Within first term: Choose advisory committee and meet to discuss the thesis project in general and appropriate course work.

(2) Within 12 to 16 months (maximum): Submit thesis proposal.

(3) Every year meet with Advisory Committee and complete Progress Report.

(4) Approximately 3 months before submission of thesis, present Thesis Seminar (2 weeks notice required*)

(5) Complete Nomination of Examiners form for submission with thesis.

Transfer M.Sc. to Ph.D.

  • Requires excellent academic record,recommendation of Advisory Committee, and successful defence of thesis proposal at the transfer seminar/candidacy exam (NEUR 700).
  • Transfer can be completed anytime within time limitations for M.Sc. but not later.
  • Students must be registered in NEUR 700 for the term in which they take the candidacy exam AND MUST COMPLETE AN APPLICATION FORM FOR THE Ph.D. PROGRAM by the deadline as specified above.

1) Submit Ph.D. thesis proposal and present to Advisory Committee. [Note:Transferring students may avoid completing the M.Sc. thesis proposal by submitting the Ph.D. thesis proposal within 16 months of initial registration.]

2) Advisory Committee recommends proceeding with Seminar/Candidacy Exam.

3) Complete the Candidacy Exam (30 days notice required*)

4) Complete application form for Ph.D. program and submit to graduate office.

Ph.D.

(1) By 22 months maximum- Submit thesis proposal to Advisory Committee. Proposal must be approved by AC by 23 months maximum.

(2) By 24 months maximum complete the Candidacy Exam (30 days notice required*;students must be registered for NEUR 700).

New and Transfer Students

(1) Every year Meet with Advisory Committee and complete Progress Report.

(2) Approximately 3 months before submission of thesis, present Thesis Seminar (2 weeks notice required*).

* No Seminars or candidacy exams in July or August
