Independent Reading Groups
The Joys of Jacques Lacan: A Selection of Lacan’s Ecrits
The goal of the reading group is to study four carefully selected Ecrits by the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan (1901–1981). To engender a wider breadth of perspective, these four Ecrits will be read in tandem with a commentary provided by the notable psychoanalyst and Lacan interpreter Bruce Fink, a commentary that Fink provides in, Lacan To The Letter: Reading Ecrits Closely. The chosen Ecrits are “The Direction of the Treatment”, “The Instance of the Letter in the Unconscious”, “The Subversion of the Subject” and one Ecrit to which Fink did not devote a separate chapter in his commentary, namely “Seminar on the Purloined Letter”, but which is nonetheless a highly referenced and debated Lacanian text.
