Fall 2012 Series
Memory and City
How does memory shape conceptions of public places? The readings span architecture (Hayden, Torre), literature (Calvino), history (Nora, Sturken), cultural studies (Huyssen, Klein, Lisle), art history (Hornstein, Young), performance studies (Aldarondo), and cultural geography (Bosco, Till). Additionally, readings cover a range of geographical locations (Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Berlin, New York, Toronto). After the first theory-based introductory session, the reading group will have five sessions each focusing on a different city/event.
