Fall 2012 Series
Jacques Lacan: The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis and The Position of the Unconscious
The goal of this reading group will be to break into Lacan’s unique subject and writing style with some help from his commentators Slavoj Žižek and Bruce Fink. Beginning with Žižek’s How to Read Lacan, the group will then move on to one of Lacan’s most widely read seminars, Seminar XI: The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis, read in tandem with Fink’s The Lacanian Subject. Finally, in an effort to bridge the space between the Seminars and Écrits, the group will end with “The Position of the Unconscious,” a lecture rewritten in the same year as Seminar XI and published in Écrits.
