The Good Cause: Activism, Identity and the Ethical Conundrum
This course will explore the public and private faces of activism using sources from literature, law, history and political theory. Exploring the ideas and practices of activism primarily from a humanist perspective, the course will investigate topics such as commitment and renunciation, the private and the public, world citizenship, activism in a minor key, as well as affective aspects of activism through the discussion of specific texts, movements and persons. The course will be conducted as a seminar and will include invited speakers and an experiential project.
