Sensibility and the Self

Instructors: Garth Green (Religious Studies) and Lynn Kozak (History)

Sensibility and the Self centres on questions of vision and visuality (and sensibility more generally) in the understanding of the self throughout the western tradition. Readings will be taken from literary, theological, dramatic, and philosophical texts across a wide range of historical and cultural contexts, allowing students to explore theories of the nature and limits of vision and the sense and how perception contributes to, and comes into conflict with, the construction of the self.
