Non-resident Canadian students who are not eligible for a Canadian health plan and have no insurance coverage or whose private insurance is not adequate, have the option of enrolling on McGill's International Student Health Insurance Plan. To do so they must complete the form below no later than September 30 (Fall Term) or January 31 (Winter Term).
Processing for the Fall session will be done between August 15 and September 30. Winter processing will be done between December 15 and January 31.
By Senate Regulation, ALL international students (full-time, part-time, exchange, special and visiting) and their accompanying dependent(s) are required to participate in the University's compulsory sickness and accident plan. Students who meet certain criteria may be eligible for an exemption. The list of exemption categories can be found under Eligibility for Exemption. Please note that, students covered by private health insurance are not exempt from the McGill plan.
Payment Express is a convenient service that reimburses you for the medical expenses you incur. You do not need to complete a claim form.
Here's how it works:
- Present your medical and prescription receipts in person at the front counter on the ground floor of the Blue Cross Building (550 Sherbrooke Street West). Opening hours are 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday.
- Unless further investigation is required, you will be reimbursed immediately.
IHI Rates for the 2013-2014 academic year
- Single IHI plan: $951
- Dependent IHI plan: $2,916
- Family IHI plan: $5,547
Students who graduate and obtain an open 3-year postgraduate work permit are now eligible for Quebec Medicare.

Keeping you healthy
McGill requires all international students and their accompanying dependents to participate in the compulsory McGill International Health Insurance Plan 2013-2014 which is administered by International Student Services.
McGill's International Student Health Insurance Plan is compulsory for all international students, except in rare situations where exemptions may be granted. However, your health insurance coverage may be cancelled if you:

The cost of the International Health Insurance for the Summer 2014 term is $317. The coverage runs from May 1 to August 31, 2013.
