Your Blue Cross Health Insurance Coverage Outside of Canada

Published: 11Dec2012

It is essential that you pick up your international health insurance card prior to December 21 at Service Point as the University will be closed as of December 24th for the holidays.

While travelling abroad, your International Health Insurance (Blue Cross) coverage is limited to emergencies only, which includes hospital board and room expenses, physicians’ fees, laboratory fees, and any other expenses related to the treatment of the injury or sickness. Reimbursements are made in Canadian currency according to the exchange rate of the day the claim is processed and in accordance with the Quebec Provincial Schedule of Fees.

The maximum is $2,000.00 CAD per day for all services combined. It is recommended that you purchase additional travel insurance before leaving Canada. Have your health card on you at all times and use the number on the back of the card to notify the Blue Cross Insurance Provider of your emergency and the upcoming claim.

Please feel free to international [dot] health [at] mcgill [dot] ca (contact ISS) for additional inquiries on international health insurance.

Best wishes for Safe & Happy Holidays!
