New Students:

Request a Buddy for Fall 2013

  • If you are an incoming student this Fall and would like to request a Buddy to facilitate your transitation to life at McGill and Montreal, please submit the Buddy Request Form.

Thank you all enormously for your continued support and participation in the International Student Buddy Program. If you are graduating this semester, kindly accept our warmest wishes for a bright and successful future!

For international students who are unfamiliar with Montreal or the North American lifestyle, moving to McGill can be a daunting experience. That's why we offer the Buddy program, which pairs new international students with current students who provide the friendly face, helping hand, and first Montreal friendship that can make a world of difference for new arrivals. Buddies can also offer linguistic support, cultural guidance and information about life at McGill. Now in its 21st year, the Buddy Program has helped thousands of international students - more than 500 last year - settle into McGill and Montreal. Typical "buddy" activities might include showing international students around campus, locating banks and grocery stores near the University, helping with an apartment search, or chatting over a cup of coffee.

If you're a new international student and would like help settling into Montreal, feel free to request a buddy here. For more information, refer to the document. If you're a current McGill student and would like to volunteer as a Buddy, click here. For more information, refer to the document

Volunteers and new students are paired starting in May for the Fall academic term, allowing new students to be in touch with their buddies over the summer should they chose to do so. There is no hard deadline for signing up, although it's important for both volunteers and new students to sign up before the term begins in order to ensure a smooth pairing.
