Transferring Credits

Students are normally allowed to transfer appropriate credits completed elsewhere to meet up to one-third of a McGill program. For the 18 credit Minor Concentration, 6 credits may be transferred to the program; for the 36 credit Major Concentration or Joint Honours Program, 12 credits may be transferred to the program; and for the 57 credit Honours Program, 18 credits may be transferred to the program.

Please note that prior approval from a program adviser or the program chair is required.

University of Calgary

University of Calgary - Semester in Thailand

Chiang Mai, Thailand's second largest city and the gateway to Northern Thailand, is the location of the program, which will offer courses in Development Studies, Political Science, Religious Studies and the Thai language. This program is open to any student studying at a post-secondary institution in Canada.

Dal

Dalhousie University - Cuba Study Tour

The Cuba Study Tour is offered every April. Leaving the last week in April and returning first week in May. Through seminars, lectures and other activities, students will be introduced to Cuban society and culture. The programme runs over a six week period with four weeks of briefing and debriefing sessions in Halifax and a full two weeks in Havana with FLACSO at the Universtiy of Havana. In Cuba, there will be daily lectures translated simultaneously in English at the University of Havana and field visits to sites in and around Havana. Participants will be required to keep a daily journal, conduct an interview with a Cuban citizen, and prepare and present a research paper on an approved topic related to Cuban development.

Trent

Trent-in-Ecuador Program

The Trent-in-Ecuador Program offered by International Development Studies enables undergraduates to deepen their understanding of comparative and international development by living, studying, and working in a developing country. Taking full advantage of these opportunities requires a capacity to cope with many practical frustrations and challenges.

The Program is based in Sangolqui, a city of 40,000 located in the high sierra close (35 km) to Quito, the country's capital.

Trent-in-Ghana Program

The Trent-in-Ghana Program offered by International Development Studies enables undergraduates to deepen their understanding of comparative and international development by living, studying, and working in a developing country. Taking full advantage of these opportunities requires a capacity to cope with many practical frustrations and challenges.

The Institute for African Studies (IAS) organizes placements in several regions of the country with a special emphasis on the north.
