With a population of almost 42,000 people and the single largest real estate operation on the island of Montreal, McGill is almost a city unto itself. Given our size and the population we serve, the university has a significant impact on energy consumption, water and material resources, greenhouse gas generation, waste and pollution. In faculties across campus, researchers are spearheading exciting new initiatives in a variety of areas, including alternative fuels, water resources management and sustainable manufacturing.
The concept of sustainability isn’t new at McGill. We have a long-established commitment to achieving the highest possible standards in our day-to-day activities, academic practices, facilities and operations, and community outreach initiatives.
