Position Title: 
Laboratory Technician (PED 00037, MC0009, Level 09)
Position Summary: 
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology in fields such as chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, histology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology and molecular biology.
  • Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of assays, analyses and tests such as tissue culture, radiochemical assays, electrophoresis, chromatography and histological procedures. Participates in small animal handling and minor surgery.
  • Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.
  • Demonstrates the operation of apparatus or techniques.
  • Maintains equipment and performs minor repairs. Arranges for servicing.
Education & Experience: 

DEC III (Medical Lab Technology)

Two (2) years’ related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Demonstrated ability to work in a cell culture environment. Meticulous, accurate and autonomous in the execution of tasks. Demonstrated knowledge in the operation of DNA samples and performing Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Proven attention to detail and accurate judgment as well as excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Demonstrated team spirit and initiative. Proven ability to work in a computerized environment using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). English, spoken and written is essential. French, spoken.
