Job Summary: 
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, oversees the day-to-day operations of field research facilities. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others and participates in their training. Establishes priorities and schedules of projects. Coordinates execution of projects. Develops procedures and makes recommendations to improve unit efficiency. Develops methodology. Performs a variety of highly specialized technical tasks related to soil science and agronomy. Provides computer support concerning hardware and software, including administering a local area network. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Administers accounts. Prepares budget proposals. Maintains records. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of field research facilities, such as soil science and wildlife. Coordinates the execution of experiments, projects and services. Establishes priorities and ensures adherence to schedules. Ensures efficiency and quality of output.

2. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training.

3. Participates in the development and implementation of unit procedures and work methods. Makes recommendations to improve unit efficiency, including recommendations on staff requirements.

4. Reviews and analyzes project submissions. Advises on feasibility. Establishes time and cost estimates. Prepares quotations.

5. Performs a variety of highly specialized technical tasks related to soil science and agronomy.

6. Performs technical tasks related to the maintenance and administration of an area's computer network(s), including such matters as security, granting access, creating user and system menus, monitoring network usage, and performing system back-ups.

7. Installs, configures, tests, and upgrades hardware and software.

8. Reviews, tests, evaluates and modifies equipment and methodology. Develops methodology. Assesses equipment needs. Coordinates the provision of equipment. Designs or fabricates specialized equipment. Oversees equipment loans.

9. Assesses and selects field locations. Coordinates field sampling with lab analyses.

10. Instructs others concerning the use of computer hardware and software. Advises on appropriate statistical procedures. Advises on new hardware and software acquisitions.

11. Acts as resource person, resolves problems, and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and analysis of results.

12. Compiles experimental data. Analyzes and discusses results and their interpretation with others. Maintains records and files.

13. Performs accounting functions such as monitoring expenditures, verifying ledgers and resolving discrepancies. Forecasts costs of supplies, materials and equipment. Prepares invoices. Prepares budgets or budget proposals.

14. Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

15. Maintains equipment and vehicles, performs repairs and arranges for servicing.

16. Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material.

17. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.

18. Operates a variety of farm equipment such as tractors, precision planters, grain drills, silage harvesters, trucks. Uses computers, power and hand tools.

Education and Experience: 
DEC III (Natural Science or Technology Farm Management)
Three (3) years' related experience
