Job Summary: 
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, provides computer support to an area. Provides information, instruction and assistance concerning the use of hardware and software. Installs, upgrades, configures, and tests hardware and software at the workstation level. Acts as a resource person and troubleshoots problems. Performs basic technical tasks related to the maintenance and administration of an area's computer network(s).
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Provides computer support to an area. Provides information, instruction and assistance concerning the use of hardware and software. Acts as resource person and troubleshoots problems. Resolves problems within area of expertise.

2. Installs, tests, configures and upgrades hardware and software at the workstation level.

3. Performs basic technical tasks related to the maintenance and administration of an area's computer network(s) such as assigning passwords, purging print queues, enabling and disabling accounts, monitoring scheduled backups.

4. Maintains records and prepares documentation related to activities of the unit, including resources such as web pages and databases.

5. Submits jobs for processing or for programming.

6. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance. Arranges and monitors servicing.

7. Maintains inventory of equipment and materials.

8. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.

9. Uses equipment such as computers, printers, modems, tape drives, cables, and basic hand tools.
