Job Summary: 
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the planning of construction, renovation and development relating to University property. Designs and produces technical drawings and construction plans. Conducts site surveys. Participates in coordinating the work of consultants, contractors and site inspectors and work schedules. Acts as resource person. Prepares reports. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Researches information and discusses with clients to compile construction design requirements. Consults with architects, engineers, contractors on standards of work.

2. Participates in the review of construction projects, feasibility studies and preliminary budgets. Conducts site surveys in order to gather information (dimensions, inventory of fixtures, environment, etc.) and to verify specifications. Consults existing plans and designs as required. Writes project specifications.

3. Produces, manually or using specialized software, preliminary and detailed construction plans, designs, sketches and drawings. Ensures compliance with codes and by-laws.

4. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning the use of computer equipment.

5. Participates in coordinating the work of consultants, contractors and site inspectors and work schedules. Provides information and ensures compliance with specifications.

6. Performs design criteria calculations and resolves problems concerning layout, restrictions, construction and equipment.

7. Prepares reports and other documents related to area of activity. Maintains records and files. Updates computerized files and drawings.

8. Maintains equipment and performs repairs. Arranges for servicing.

9. Maintains inventory. Recommends and purchases equipment and material.

10. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.

11. Uses a variety of equipment such as a computer, photocopier, printer, calculator, drafting table and different measuring tools.

Education and Experience: 
DEC III (Building Systems or Architectural Technology)
Two (2) years’ related experience
