Job Summary: 
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, oversees the day-to-day operations of an animal facility. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others and participates in their training. Establishes priorities and schedules of projects. Coordinates execution of projects. Develops procedures and makes recommendations to improve unit efficiency. Develops methodology. Performs animal health related duties and technical procedures related to care and use of animals. Prepares animals and participates in surgical procedures. Administers treatment and medications. Coordinates use of operating room and equipment. Acts as resource person. Analyses and interprets data. Administers accounts. Prepares budget proposals and quotations. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Oversees the day-to-day operations of an animal facility. Coordinates the execution of experiments, projects and services. Establishes priorities and ensures adherence to schedules. Ensures efficiency and quality of output.

2. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others and participates in their training.

3. Participates in the development and implementation of unit procedures and work methods. Makes recommendations to improve unit efficiency, including on staff requirements.

4. Reviews, tests, evaluates and modifies equipment and methodology. Develops methodology. Assesses equipment needs. Coordinates the provision of equipment. Designs and fabricates specialized equipment as required.

5. Performs technical duties related to the care and maintenance of animals. Examines and monitors health of animals.

6. Participates in projects and experiments. Performs surgical procedures; participates in modification of protocols.

7. Performs euthanasia and necropsy. Prepares animals for surgery and provides post-operative care of animals.

8. Schedules operating room times. Prepares surgical facility, including equipment and drugs.

9. Discusses diagnosis and treatment with veterinarian Administers medications and treatments. Collects samples and performs diagnostic tests and analyses.

10. Updates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures. Compiles and analyses data. Maintains records and prepares report. Prepares invoices for various services charged to clients.

11. Acts as resource person, resolves problems and instructs others. Provides technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results.

12. Performs accounting functions such as monitoring expenditures, verifying ledgers and resolving discrepancies. Forecasts costs of supplies, materials and equipment. Prepares quotations and invoices. Prepares budgets or budget proposals.

13. Ensures sufficient inventory and purchase of all animal care supplies, equipment and materials. Maintains equipment, performs minor repairs and arranges for service and major repairs.

14. Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment. Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

15. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.

16. Uses a variety of equipment such as anesthesia equipment, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, veterinary instruments and computers.

Education and Experience: 
DEC III (Animal Health Technology)
Four (4) years' related experience.
