Position Summary:
The Business Analyst (BI) works with the business stakeholders to document business needs and to evaluate project opportunities. This resource then serves as a liaison between the end users, the business SMEs and the BI project team and leads all business requirements gathering and documenting for the Data Warehouse (ODS and EDW) and Business Intelligence application projects. The Business Analyst (BI) must gain consensus and approvals on documented requirements and recommend appropriate scope and priorities. This resource will also lead all UAT activities. The position calls for a service-oriented individual who has the ability to carry out projects both independently and as a team member showing initiative, creativity and good judgment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works with the business stakeholders from the time a business need is identified to evaluate the opportunity for a project.
- Responsible for eliciting detailed business requirements for projects, including functional, non-functional, user interface requirements, training, service levels, and performance requirements, from business stakeholders via various mediums such as interviews, surveys, user workshops, product/prototype demos and others.
- Responsible to communicate and maintain relationship with the business (users) throughout all phases of the project delivery process.
- Leads the activities to analyse user requirements, including to decompose high-level information into details, to abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and to distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
- Responsible for defining user acceptance test strategy, plan and data use-cases based on business requirements and support the execution of User Acceptance Tests.
- Define training strategy and support development of training materials; support delivery of training to users.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Undergraduate degree (Computer Science or related field)
5 years’ related experience as a Business Analyst or similar role, including 3 years involving BI projects
Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:
Knowledge of OLTP, OLAP and data warehouse concepts. Understands ETL processes. Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with end users, team members and all levels of management. Strong requirements elicitation and meeting facilitation skills and proven experience at driving consensus across multiple stakeholders. Ability to produce and deliver informative, well-organized presentations. Ability to translate business requirements into data and technical requirement. Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work on different projects concurrently. Strong understanding of project and change management. Strong process driven analysis skills and problem-solving skills. Knowledge and experience in Higher Education business domain an asset. Business analysis certification (CCBA or CBAP) an asset. English (spoken and written), French (spoken).
