BI Technical Lead (IST3A)
Position Summary: 
Reporting to the Program Manager, Business Intelligence (BI), the BI Technical Lead is responsible to oversee and participate in the on-going support and maintenance, technical design, development, execution and implementation of the BI Solution (including ODS, EDW, OLAP and MDM components) at McGill.
Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Accountable for leading small team of programmers in the development of SQL scripts and SSIS/SSAS/SSRS applications for projects or evolution requests.   The Technical Lead is responsible for relaying business requirements to the programmers, accepting and validating all specifications received, assigning development work to team members, review code and solutions for quality assurance and ensure compliance with Enterprise Architecture standards.
  • Accountable for all software component documentation.
  • The BI technical Lead has an important role in testing, including being responsible for unit testing sign-off;
  • Supports the development of Integration and User  Acceptance Test strategy and is responsible to provide technical support during these tests;
  • Define BI strategy and processes for Operations and then implements and manages required operational processes to comply with McGill ITS standards and methodologies.
  • Oversee the evolution, support and maintenance activities for the current Operational Data Warehouse (ODW) based on Oracle technology.
  • Mentor other team resources
  • Responsible for compatibility between the BI components and other OLTP systems. Interfaces with Programming team for development involving other applications
Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degreeFive (5) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Experience should include 5-8 years as a programmer, with at least 3 years in a technical leading role. Experience with the Microsoft BI family of tools (SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and SharePoint). Experience using ETL tools and deep understanding of ETL concepts, standards and best practices. Solid experience in the development of Enterprise Date Warehouse. Experience and strong expertise with Oracle databases (version 10g and 11g) and PL/SQL. Experience with performance optimization including SQL tuning. Good understanding of all Data Warehouse concepts (MDM, ODS, EDW, DM, OLAP, Metadata). Good communication skills in English (spoken and written), French (spoken).
