Position Title: 
AV Technical Leader (IST3C)
Position Summary: 
The Audio/Visual Technical Leader is responsible for providing technical expertise, problem resolution and mentoring to a team of technical professionals responsible for IT technical solutions and services. The selected candidate will be accountable for the suitability, reliability, stability and availability of IT technical solutions and services in this particular area of responsibility.
Primary Responsibilities: 
  • In accordance with Technical, Solution and Enterprise Architecture guidelines, directives and designs, ensures optimal availability of technical solutions and services that support business functions.
  • Oversees the technical and maintenance activities within the team and coordinates those activities with relevant members of the larger McGill University IT Community. Works with vendors’ technical support staff as needed.
  • Meets regularly with the team to prioritize and troubleshoot items, and continuously look for ways to improve IT technologies efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager, Technical, Solutions and Enterprise Architects, and other relevant members of the McGill community, plans and leads the implementation of new technologies and evolution of current technologies.
  • Identifies risks associated with services development activities by proactively evaluating potential impact to projects and proposes appropriate actions to mitigate risk.
  • Accountable for the scoping, planning, development and delivery of the technology components under own responsibility for end to end services, which meet or exceed quality standards in accordance with planned budget and schedule.  Works with vendors’ technical support staff as needed.
  • Delivers and maintains technology roadmaps that provide robust solutions which meet or exceed requirements and IT service level agreements as well as take into account vendor roadmaps.
  • Stays abreast of related technologies and ensure solutions meet required technical design and specifications and that development deliverables adhere to best practices and standards.
  • Proactively identify risks and propose mitigation strategies for technical solutions and/or services.
Minimum Education & Experience: 

Undergraduate degree

Five (5) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities: 
Extensive experience eliciting requirements from users and developing specifications for Audio/Visual technology solutions. Demonstrated experience establishing standards for Audio/Visual procedures and design. Advanced knowledge in Audio/Visual commercial products. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following technologies: Crestron configuration, design and architecture as well as DSP system design and programming. Advanced Audio/Visual system design skills along with ability to troubleshoot problems, Advanced knowledge in all audio and video format standards, digital system standards and applications. Basic network configuration. Basic understanding of interactive surface (Smart). General domotic knowledge and basic optical knowledge. Proven experience working effectively with vendors and suppliers. English (spoken and written), French (spoken).
