McGill's Performance Dialogue Process (For M staff with a supervisory role)

Course objectives:
Effective Performance Dialogue involves a partnership between supervisors and employees and is based on the annual planning and regular review of pre-established individual objectives, linked to unit priorities. Conducting timely and substantive performance dialogue sessions with employees is a fundamental responsibility of McGill supervisors, in alignment with best practices in organizational effectiveness. Staff members want to know how they are performing and how they can continue to develop their competencies in accordance with the evolving needs of the institution. Performance Dialogue supports a culture of continuous learning for individuals, teams and the institution at large.

This in-class workshop focuses on the practical aspect of performance dialogue as a supervisor. In preparation for this workshop, it is mandatory to watch the Performance Dialogue Training videos by visiting the following website:

In this workshop, participants will:

• Learn how to best use the Performance Dialogue Process in support of unit and individual objectives, employee engagement and sustainability/succession planning

• Discover more about McGill’s evolving Talent Management program, with revised competencies in the job families and the integration of the 7 Behavioral Competencies

• Explore the application of the various dimensions of Performance Dialogue (setting SMART objectives, ongoing competency development, career development/succession, etc.) through exercises, scenarios and sharing best practices
