Safer Spaces: Anti-Discrimination in Professional Practice
The Diversity and Non-Discrimination in University Life workshop is designed to reach a broad audience, including administrators, faculty, support staff, and students. This workshop encourages a ‘person-first’ approach to interaction, and helps participants understand what types of actions and responses are appropriate in a variety of situations. This workshop provides several tools. The participant will be exposed to a number of key terms for diversity, as well as some of the myths and debates surrounding these terms. Through individual and interactive activities, the participant will also learn more about self-identity, perspective and privilege. Finally, this workshop encourages the participant to use group identities, diversity concepts, and critical thinking to develop an understanding of responsible and empathetic engagement with others.
