Hispanic Studies is not offering Portugese language courses during this academic year. Students who wish to take Portuguese courses can do so at UdM (Université de Montréal) or UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal). Please check their schedule of classes for course availability.
In order to have Portuguese language courses transferred to McGill students are strongly encouraged to register in a course (or combination of courses) equivalent in content and number of credits to HISP-202 (Portuguese Beginners, 6 cr.) or HISP-204 (Portuguese Intermediate, 6 cr.). For information as to how to apply for permission to study at other Quebec university please see the Quebec Inter-University website.
Students who apply to take Portuguese at UdM or UQAM must also take into account that, according to McGill residency requirements, at least two thirds (2/3) of their program of study must be done at McGill, that is, at least 12 credits in the case of a Minor, 24 credits in the case of a Major/Joint Honours, or 40 credits in the case of an Honours degree must be completed in courses offered by Hispanic Studies. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Finally, Hispanic Studies does not guarantee that Portuguese language courses taken without pre-approval from the Director of Undergraduate Studies/Undergraduate Advisor will be approved for transfer credit.
