Ready to apply?

Please consult the program page to determine the Date for Guaranteed Consideration for the program you are applying to. These dates vary between departments and programs.

Before you apply please make sure to read the steps to applying information, the minimum admissions requirements and the application checklist.

If you feel that you’ve prepared everything you need, then you’re ready to apply!

  • Complete the online application form ($100 non-refundable fee; VISA or MasterCard accepted). Applications will not be processed without payment.
  • It should take you approximately 30 minutes to complete the online application. You may stop at any time and finish later by re-entering your Login ID and PIN number.
  • You can apply to two programs in different academic units (departments, schools or institute), on the same online application form.
  • Do not apply to a thesis and a non-thesis master’s program within the same academic unit as two separate choices. Select only one program and you can request a change at a later time.

Application status

You can track the status of your application online using Minerva, McGill’s self-service web-based administrative system.

Once you have applied, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt sent to the e-mail address you have entered on your application. This will contain an identification number and PIN which you can then use to log on to Minerva.

On the Road to Paperless:

Please note that as of October 15, 2012 applicants will  be able to upload the necessary supporting documents for applications to summer or fall 2013 programs administered by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (i.e., Master’s or Doctoral degrees).

Please see the Program page for the department to which you have applied for detailed information. applicants will use Minerva, McGill’s self-service web-based administrative system, to upload documents required in support of your application.  If the supporting documentation is not uploaded on time, your file may be delayed and miss the current admission round. Please advise the Graduate Program Coordinator of the academic department reviewing your application of  extenuating circumstances which may cause you to upload a document after the due date. They will tag your file accordingly so that the committee will know when to expect the outstanding documentation.

McGill will request letters of recommendation on your behalf from referees you identify on the application form.

For summer/fall 2013 admission you must upload unofficial copies of transcripts and other supporting documents. Please check the individual program pages for details.

For winter 2013 admission, letters of recommendation, transcripts and all other supporting documents should be sent directly to the department concerned. Please check the individual program pages for mailing addresses.
