Final Thesis Submission

The student must submit the final version of the thesis electronically to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (see e-thesis) within one month of the defence or by the deadline date for convocation posted on the web, whichever is sooner. The student will then be eligible to graduate. Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will inform the supervisor by email that the thesis has been submitted and will provide instructions for how to approve the electronically submitted thesis or to indicate to the student that further amendment is required (see e-thesis supervisor instructions). It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure that the corrections to the thesis have been made and that the submitted thesis conforms to requirements.

Temporarily Withholding a Thesis from Circulation

There may be reasons why the student does not wish to have the thesis electronically published immediately following submission, e.g.: concerns about the disclosure of patentable rights. In order to withhold a thesis from circulation temporarily, a student must, with the endorsement of the supervisor, make a written request detailing the reasons to GPS no later than the final e-thesis submission. GPS may permit the thesis to be withheld from electronic publication for a period of up to one year. At the end of the approved period, the thesis will automatically be released to the libraries.
