Mitacs internships

Mitacs aims to connect companies, government and academia by coordinating collaborative industry-university research projects.  Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows learn how to apply their specialized expertise to business research challenges through a suite of paid internship opportunities.

Mitacs offers the following programs:

  • Accelerate
Canada’s premiere research internship program providing interns with the opportunity to transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise. Interns spend approximately half of the time on-site with the industry partner; the remainder is spent at the university advancing the research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
Visit the accelerate website for more information.
  • Elevate
Provides a foundation of cutting-edge research, business, entrepreneurship and scientific management skills to newly-minted PhDs while giving companies access to a highly qualified uniquely trained pool of talent.
Visit the Elevate website for more information.
  • Globalink
Introduces Canada as a world-leading research and innovation destination to top undergraduate students from around the world. This competitive program pairs top-ranked students and faculty at Canadian universities for a 12-week research project of mutual interest in the period of May to September. Faculty members benefit from students’ international perspectives and experience, and can evaluate potential graduate students while demonstrating the breadth of Canadian research opportunities.
Visit the Globalink website for more information.
  • Step:
Mitacs Step is Canada’s only comprehensive program providing business-ready skills to up and coming researchers. Step trains graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in essential interpersonal, project management and entrepreneurial skills required for them to succeed in their future career.
