Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Mourns Charlotte Légaré
We are deeply saddened to announce that our dear friend and colleague, Charlotte Légaré, passed away on Monday after a long struggle with cancer. Charlotte worked at McGill for 30 years. For over 20 years she was Director of Graduate Studies, but more than that, Charlotte was the heart of GPS. She will be greatly missed. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 4, 2013 at Urgel Bourgie funeral complex, 1255 Beaumont, Mont-Royal.

Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is pleased to congratulate Dr. Jean-Philippe Lessard, an ecologist and postdoctoral fellow at the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science at McGill University, who has been selected as the April 2013 winner of an Étudiants-chercheurs étoiles award, from the Fonds Nature et Technologies of the Government of Quebec. Dr. Lessard has also been featured in the "Academic Minute" podcast for his work on assembly dynamics of tree communities.

We are pleased to have Master's student Audrey Yank, from the department of Bioresource Engineering, represent McGill at "Votre Soutenance en 180 secondes" hosted by L’Association francophone pour le savoir (Acfas). Acfas is a non-profit organization that contributes to the growth of science in Quebec and within the francophone community.
Graduate student Xenia Kurguzova wins SSHRC prize
Earlier this year, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) launched Research for a Better Life: The Storytellers, a competition encouraging Canadian post-secondary students to find innovative ways of communicating how funded research projects about people, behaviour, human thought and culture are beneficial to Canadians – and beyond. The winners will receive $3,000 and the chance to compete for a featured presentation at the next World Social Sciences Forum.
