Integration with Enrolment Services
In February, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) informed the University community of the plan to harmonize and streamline graduate procedures through an integration of some student services with Enrolment Services (ES). We are pleased to confirm that as of July 13th, 2012, graduate admissions, records, registration and postdoctoral operations and processes will be managed by ES. GPS’ expert graduate admission, records, registration and postdoc staff will integrate with the team already in place in ES.
What does this transition mean in concrete terms?
It is the ongoing mission of GPS to ensure the integrity and excellence of graduate research and scholarship at McGill by providing expertise, advice, advocacy and information. In partnership with other academic units, GPS will lead strategic planning initiatives and maintain academic oversight and quality assurance for graduate education and postdoctoral training. As well, the improvement of the graduate student and postdoctoral experience, through conflict resolution and academic and professional development, among other initiatives, remains a constant priority. GPS is also retaining responsibility for funding, fellowships, thesis and degree evaluation. While the processing of admissions, records and registration is moving to ES, GPS will continue to oversee the policies and procedures pertaining to these services. Please take note of the following changes:
As of July 13th, 2012, Enrolment Services, under the direction of Kathleen Massey, University Registrar and Executive Director, will assume the management of graduate, postdoctoral and graduate research trainee admissions, records and registration procedures (excluding those to be assumed by Desautels Faculty of Management for Master’s level students).
The graduate admissions team of Laurens Verkade, Anna Cianci and Rona Schwartz will report to Kim Bartlett, Director (Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions). The records, registration, and postdoc team of Fiorella Lisi, Martine Eggeman, Shelley Jardine, and Rodica Vascan will report to Heidi Emami, Assistant Registrar (Student Records). GPS information clerk, Lorraine Griffin and admissions clerk, Margaret Tsang, will join the records team in Enrolment Services and will also report to Heidi Emami.
The team will move from the James Administration building to Enrolment Services/Service Point in the McLennan Library building on Friday, July 13th. Access to e-mail and phone will be limited on the move day but is expected to be back to normal on Monday, July 16th. You will be able to reach them at their usual extension and e-mail addresses until further notice.
As of July 16th, any documents and forms related to graduate admissions, records, registration, and postdocs should be directed to Enrolment Services at 3415 McTavish Street/McLennan Library Building.
The GPS front counter will be closing on July 13th. Submission of theses, inquiries and services related to thesis procedures as well as scheduled appointments with Associate Deans and the Dean will take place at the Office of the Associate Provost (Graduate Education), Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (James Administration Building, Room 400).
A directory of staff in both GPS and ES who support graduate departments is available on our contact page. Please bookmark this page as it is a handy reference tool and will be updated regularly.
