Role for NK cells in protection from HIV infection

Project Information
Description:
Dr. Antonio Caruz of the University of Jaen in Spain has collected DNA samples from 100 HIV exposed uninfected injection drug users and 150 low risk controls. These are being typed for HLA, KIR3DL1 genotype, KIR3DL1 allotype and KIR region genes. We have generated data suggesting that certain KIR/HLA combinations may be associated with protection from infection. The work being done on samples from Dr. Caruz is to verify this observation in a second HIV exposed uninfected cohort.
