Nicolas Kenny is a member of the Department of History at Simon Fraser University, where he teaches Canadian and Quebec history in programmes offered in both English and French. His research focuses on urban and cultural history, and in particular on Montreal and Brussels in a transnational and comparative perspective. His thesis (defended in a joint Université Libre de Bruxelles/Université de Montréal programme in 2008) examines bodily and sensorial experiences of the urban environment, and their role in the construction of urban dwellers’ relationship to the profound transformations that marked these cities in the period 1880-1914. He is also interested in the emotional relationship to urban space, in particular the feelings of pride and nostalgia inspired by modernity. He is the author of The Feel of the City: Experiences of Urban Transformation (University of Toronto Press, forthcoming in 2014). http://www.utppublishing.com/The-Feel-of-the-City-Experiences-of-Urban-T...
