About the MHG

The Montreal History Group, a research collective established in the late 1970s and based at McGill University, brings together students, independent scholars and faculty members from nine universities in Québec, Ontario, and British Columbia who share a commitment to studying history from socialist and feminist perspectives. The group functions effectively in both English and French. The size and variety of the group permits us to explore a broad chronological period and a range of topics. The diverse composition of the team in terms of generation (senior and new scholars), language, historiographic influences, and methodological approaches encourages pedagogical and research innovation.

Group members are also actively engaged in collective research projects funded by the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
