Sylvia Rieger received her Ph.D. from the University of Washington and studied at Vanderbilt University, the Universität Regensburg, and the Freie Universität Berlin. Her teaching and research interests include intercultural and multimedia approaches to foreign language teaching, Berlin literature and film, German-Jewish and German-Arabic literature, and 20th-century German literature. She taught at Harvard University and M.I.T. before joining German Studies in 2008.
Her current research focuses on pedagogical implementations of instructional technologies in foreign teaching, representations of post-unification Berlin in literature, and film and cultural encounters between German and Arabic writers.
She is the Language Program Coordinator in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures - German Studies and teaches Beginning and Advanced German courses this academic year.
