McGill Community Involvement Opportunities
Discover McGill 2014 is offering the McGill Community 3 opportunities to help welcome this year’s incoming class and to be involved in the University’s orientation welcome events. Engage McGill is also an opportunity for the McGill community to offer their support to the people affected by the recent tragedy in Lac Mégantic.
Discover McGill Welcome Lines
Discover McGill, which kicks off Orientation Week for our new undergraduate students, will take place on Tuesday, August 26th. We are planning an exciting day to greet the students, and the McGill community is invited to participate. We would like as many members of the McGill Community as possible to join us in forming “welcome lines” on either side of the entrance gates to Molson Stadium to greet, cheer, clap and otherwise welcome students as they enter. Newly admitted undergraduate students will walk through these lines led by McGill Athletics’ Fight Band. The welcome lines will offer new students a rousing start to their years at McGill and showcase the great pride our faculty and staff have in our student body.
Location: Molson Stadium, Athletics Complex
Time commitment: 9:45-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 26th.
Registration: People interested in participating in this show of McGill spirit are asked to RSVP by completing this registration form by Friday, August 22nd.
Information: Campus Life & Engagement (formerly First-Year Office) at 514-398-6913 by email at firstyear [at] mcgill [dot] ca
Engage McGill is a new community event that will offer the perfect end to Discover McGill Day on Tuesday, August 26th. It will take place on Lower Campus from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Come be a part of this exciting and certainly memorable event. Enjoy our performers, take part in the games, and sample the food (“McGill Feeds McGill”) and treats available. All money raised during the event will be contributed to the Lac Mégantic community. Please be generous!
McGill Feeding McGill
As part of Discover McGill's Engage McGill event on Tuesday, August 27th, McGill’s Student Housing and Hospitality Services is celebrating the 5th season of McGill Feeding McGill with a “five-course tomato-themed meal” from 1:00- to 5:00 p.m. in the lower field at “Parents Tent.” We will be featuring the greatest tomatoes available coming from our very own farm on the Macdonald Campus. We will prepare:
- 500lbs of tomato salsa with nachos (prepared on the spot)
- 500lts of gazpacho (prepared on the spot)
- 2500lbs of tomato salad (Greek salad prepared on the spot)
- Tomato pizza or pasta with fresh tomato sauce (cooked in the residences and brought down to the tent)
- And finally a 500lbs tomato cake (iced and decorated with a McGill logo) prepared in advance but finished and decorated in the tent.
We will also be donating approximately 2000lbs of our tomato salad to the Old Brewery Mission and Meals on Wheels.
Everyone is welcome. If you do not volunteer, you can come and eat… the more the merrier!
We need 100 volunteers on a first come, first serve basis. The deadline to sign-up is Sunday, August 25, 2013 at midnight.
