O-Staff are returning McGill students who help to create welcoming and well-organized environments, spaces, and operations for events and participants during Orientation Week (the week immediately preceding Labour Day). O-Staff are essential to the success and smooth functioning of all events.
O-Staff Job Description
O-Staff can be expected to help with any number of Orientation Week/Frosh-related activities, included but not limited to assisting Coordinators; Beverage Tent operations, including set-up and cleaning; food and drink service; logistics at off-campus venues; logistics for bus embarkment and disembarkment; and other tasks as required. O-Staff are expected at all times to be working on assigned tasks or helping others.
The ideal O-Staff is responsible, efficient, and quickly responds to assigned tasks. An O-Staff is highly cooperative with Coordinators, fellow O-Staff, students, and the general public and committed to their tasks, role, and responsibilities. An O-Staff is proactive and takes initiative within the parameters of their responsibilities.
An O-Staff has strong communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in diverse groups. They are able to recognize and respond quickly to problems and issues before they escalate. All O-Staff should be Server Trained by McGill’s First-Year Office by the start of Orientation Week.
Successful O-Staff can expect to be involved in an opportunity to gain leadership experience. They will also get to take part in informing several students’ views of and initial experiences at McGill and/or in Montreal. O-Staff will receive recognition from the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU) and McGill upon successful completion of their duties and responsibilities.
O-Staff must be available all day and night for ALL of the days from Monday, August 26 (training) until the end of Orientation Week on Sunday, September 1, 2013.
Please note: O-Staff pay a nominal fee for the Week, which covers food, admission, apparel, and other expenses.
