Tutorials for McGill's Facilities and Space Management System (FAMIS)

All users of McGill's Facilities and Space Management System (FAMIS) have access to three basic modules: Service Requests, Reports and Visual Map. Additional modules are also available, reserved for use by building directors, faculty space coordinators, and employees of Facilities, Operations, and Development (FOD) central office.


First-time Users

FAMIS will only work with Internet Explorer. It will not work with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, nor with Microsoft Edge. To connect to FAMIS, start Internet Explorer and browse to https://myfacilities.mcgill.ca/pfamis

The first time you log-in, a yellow bar may appear at the top of your screen that says "The website wants to run the following add-on: 'Windows Media 6.4 Player Shim' from 'Microsoft Corporation', or some other type of security warning. Right-click directly on the yellow bar and click "Run". If you encounter any other type of security working, continue clicking "Allow" or "Ok" or "Proceed". If you are being blocked from running FAMIS, you may need to enable you need to enable “Compatibility Mode”. Follow these steps:

  1.    Go to the Tools menu (you may need to press the ALT key on your keyboard to see the menu items)
  2.    Select “Compatibility View Settings”
  3.    The website “mcgill.ca” needs to be listed in the bigger box. If it’s not, enter “mcgill.ca” in the box labelled “Add this website” then click the Add button.
  4.    Make sure there is a check in the box labelled “Display intranet sites in Compatibility View”.
  5.    Click close, quit the program, and try it again.

 

If that doesn’t work, you may need to add FAMIS to your “Trusted Sites”. To do this:

  1. Go to the Tools menu (you may need to press the ALT key on your keyboard to see the menu items)
  2. Select “Internet Options”
  3. Click on the tab named “Security”
  4. Click on the green checkmark that says “Trusted Sites”
  5. Click on the button below it named “Sites”. 
  6. In the box at the top, enter “https://myfacilities.mcgill.ca
  7. Click the Add button. Here’s what it looks like:
  8. Click close. Quit Internet Explorer and try it again.

 

Service Requests
The Service Request system allows users to create billable and non-billable requests for maintenance work to be perfromed by the downtown Operations team. This short video explains how to create a request, and how to monitor its progress once work has begun.

Reports

Other Modules
Access to additional modules is reserved for employees of Facilities, Operations, and Development (FOD) central office. These other modules use the FAMIS Navigator, a Java-based application that uses Oracle forms like Banner. Detailed training for these additional modules is only provided upon request to employees who are fulfilling specific roles within a department. Please contact the Facilities Call Center (FCC) at x4555 for more information.
