Permission of Instructor
In almost all cases, permission of instructor is required. Be sure to include your full name and Student ID number, course title(s), and course number(s) when emailing your request to the instructor. Please ask instructor to include a cc to andre [dot] yves [dot] gagnon [at] mcgill [dot] ca once permission has been granted.
Instructor’s email address appears on the Course Description section of the Summer Session.
Only after permission has been granted by instructor with copy sent to andre [dot] yves [dot] gagnon [at] mcgill [dot] ca (Andre Yves Gagnon) , Student Affairs Officer, will you be able to add the course to your record via Minerva.
McGill Students from the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health:
Students currently registered in a DEGREE program can register directly on MINERVA for May/June courses.
McGill Students from Other Departments:
Registered degree students from other departments within McGill wishing to take courses in our department MUST FIRST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM THE COURSE INSTRUCTOR. The students must then access MINERVA on the web at www.mcgill.ca/minerva to complete the registration process.
McGill "Special Students":
Students who meet the minimum entrance requirements of the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office and wish to take one or two course(s) (6 credits) without intention of proceeding to a degree or diploma are termed Special Students. After completion of a maximum of 12 credits, an applicant may not continue as a Special Student. Persons who wish to apply for SPECIAL STUDENT STATUS in order to take courses for academic credit MUST FIRST OBTAIN PERMISSION OF THE INSTRUCTOR BEFORE SUBMITTING a formal application. Their completed application, if favourably reviewed by the department, will be forwarded to GPS for final approval. When accepted, special students also have to register by accessing MINERVA on the web at www.mcgill.ca/minerva.
McGill Residents/Fellows:
Residents/Fellows must register via MINERVA at www.mcgill.ca/minerva. Before registering, selection of courses must be approved by your Program Director. If accessing Minerva for the first time your PIN (Personal Identification Number) is your year, month and day of birth (example: 651203 if you were born on December 3, 1965).
Students from other Québec Universities (IUT Students):
Degree students from other Québec universities wishing to take course(s) in our department must: 1) obtain permission from the instructor; 2) complete and submit an electronic Inter-University Transfer Agreement Form (IUT)or formulaire “Autorisation d’études hors établissement” for electronic approval. Students should check their own university website or the CREPUQ website at www.crepuq.qc.ca for procedures concerning electronic Inter-University Transfer registrations.
Students from Universities Outside Québec (Visiting Students):
Students in degree programmes in universities outside Québec must first obtain permission from the instructor, then apply on the web at www.mcgill.ca/gradapplicants/, submit their original transcripts, their curriculum vitae and a letter of approval from their home university stating that their courses can be credited to their current academic programme at their home university. Please note that marks are automatically transferred by McGill to their home university.
Students from the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia (Special Agreement):
Students from the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia must first obtain permission from the instructor, and then obtain a Special Agreement form from their Home University Registrars Office, and follow instructions indicated on the form.
Course Load
Please note that 6 credits per four-week period is considered a fair load, 10 credits a heavy load.
Note for all Academic Students: Course Addition(s)/Withdrawal(s)/Change(s)
Due to the intensive nature of these courses, the standard add/drop and withdrawal deadlines do not apply. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to verify the dates on Minerva under “Class Schedule and Add Course Sections” in the registration menu. Students will be charged full fees for courses not dropped within the Add/Drop time period.
