| NOTE TO INSTRUCTORS: It is highly recommended that professors require students to use a Faculty Standard Calculator in all midterm examinations and class tests. This requirement should be specified in the course outline. The early adoption of the standard calculator will avoid problems that arise when students realize just before or during the exam that they do not have an acceptable calculator. |
All students must have one of the following types of calculators, and no exceptions will be permitted: CASIO fx-115, CASIO fx-991, CASIO fx-570ms SHARP EL-520, or the SHARP EL-546.
The Faculty Standard Calculators CASIO fx-115, CASIO fx-991, CASIO fx-570ms, SHARP EL-520, or SHARP EL-546, will be required for some examinations. Under these circumstances, no other calculators will be permitted, regardless of their level of sophistication. NON-REGULATION CALCULATORS WILL BE REMOVED AND NO REPLACEMENT CALCULATOR WILL BE PROVIDED.
The use of calculators during examinations is at the discretion of the instructor. Please check with your instructor if you are unsure about the specific calculator requirements for your course.
Unless explicitly stated on the examination paper, calculator programs prepared prior to the examination are not permitted. Students using continuous memory calculators are responsible for erasing any stored programs or information prior to examinations.
Covers on calculators must be removed or the invigilator will remove it for you.
The use of calculators, including "palm held" computers, during examinations is at the discretion of the examiner.
With appropriate written and verbal notification being given to the students in advance; this notification being repeated in the instructions section of the examination paper; and clear instructions for invigilation purposes being given to the Student Affairs Office, who administers engineering examinations. An examiner has the right to specify the category of calculator permitted during the exam. In the case where the examiner specifies the use of the Faculty Standard Calculator, it is the responsibility of the invigilators to ensure that only the approved calculator is in use. Non-regulation calculators will be removed and no replacement calculator will be provided. In the case where the use of a category of calculator other than the Faculty Standard Calculator is permitted, a detailed memo must be forwarded to the Associate Dean (Student Affairs) for approval. It then becomes the responsibility of the examiner to ensure that the specified calculator(s) are being used during the exam. Use of calculators not conforming to the above regulations will be interpreted as cheating.
Because of the lack of outlets, only battery or solar calculators may be used.
