Transfer Credit Information

Information for all Students

If the transfer credits (based on the transcripts below) are not reflecting on your MINERVA transcript, you must attend the Faculty Orientation session on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 9:00a.m. in the Frank Dawson Building, Room 5 to have the documents evaluated. Please be prepared to provide student copies of transcripts reflecting your previous academic studies.

How to obtain Transfer Credit

Applicants who have taken courses prior to their studies at McGill may obtain transfer credit towards their program in the Faculty of Engineering. The following information will provide you with the details and the process required to obtain credit:

QUEBEC CEGEP

CEGEP students receive up to 29 credits of advanced standing for CEGEP courses. As well, you may receive course exemption (but not additional credits). Practice will vary according to your faculty.

A maximum of 29 credits of advanced standing can be granted for the French Baccalaureate. For students that have completed Series S a minimum of 10/20 is required for mathematics and physical sciences courses.
If the transfer credits (based on the transcripts below) are not reflecting on your MINERVA transcript, you must attend the Faculty Orientation session on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 9:00a.m in the Frank Dawson Building, Room 5 to have the documents evaluated. FRENCH BACCALAUREATE 

Important Notice: Please bring your student transcripts with you

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA / Higher Level Examinations

Important Notice: Please bring your student transcripts with you
The International Baccalaureate diploma with grades of 5 or better on all Higher and Standard Level examinations is the expected minimum for most programs. Some programs are more competitive and require higher grades. If you have an overall score equal to or better than 32 points, and have one grade below 5, you may be considered if you have several grades of 6 or better to compensate.
A maximum of 29 credits of advanced standing may be granted for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Engineering requires Mathematics, chemistry, and physics at Higher or Standard Levels.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS

Important Notice: Please bring your student transcripts with you
(AP) US High school

Each Faculty's policy will determine whether credit and/or exemption from certain courses will be granted for successful completion of advanced placement test. If transfer credits based on AP Examinations are not reflecting on your MINERVA transcript by January 8th, 2012, you must attend the Faculty Orientation session on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 9:00a.m in the Frank Dawson Building, Room 5. Advanced credit will be determined at this time by the Associate Director, Engineering Student Centre.

GCE ADVANCED LEVEL EXAMINATIONS

All students entering the Faculty of Engineering on the basis of A-Level results must attend the you must attend the Transfer Credit Information Session on Monday, January 7th, 2013 at 9:00a.m in the Frank Dawson Adams Building, Room 5.
Important Notice: Please provide a student copy of your A-level results indicating the specific module (course number) for each A-level that you have completed.

COURSES FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS

Important Notice: Please bring your student transcripts with you
Credit may be granted for courses passed with a grade of C or better at other universities, up to the limit imposed by McGill residency requirements and program requirements in some faculties. Grades of C-, P (pass), S (satisfactory) are not acceptable for transfer credit. The letter grades applied by the host institution take precedence over the numerical grades if both are provided.
Transfer students who are entering the Faculty on the basis of previous university studies will be required to meet their Department Advisors at the Advising Sessions being held on Monday, January 7th, 2013 to have their courses evaluated and the transfer credits determined.

SCIENCE PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS

(First Year Level Courses ONLY – Year 0)

Applicants from outside Quebec who believe that they have taken the equivalent of one or more introductory university-level science courses (algebra, calculus, biology, chemistry, physics) but who do not have official documents, may be eligible to take Science Placement Examinations at McGill.

INTERNATIONAL DEGREE EQUIVALENCY

Educational credentials obtained at non-Canadian institutions will be assessed for equivalency with a McGill University degree.
