Today McGill's Faculty of Education launches a Facebook page specifically for our Education alumni (www.facebook.com/mcgilledualumni). This page is a great place for you to find out what’s new with the Faculty of Education, our graduates, our current students, and our professors. It’s also an easy way to stay connected with news and happenings around the entire University, and to share and exchange information with us and your peers.
On May 29th, close to 450 Faculty of Education students walked across the stage to receive their degree at the convocation ceremony held on McGill’s main campus. The Hon. Michael A. Meighen, Chancellor of McGill, opened the ceremonial proceedings with the colourful customary procession led by piper Jeff McCarthy. The convocation tent was filled to capacity with proud family members cheering on the graduates as they were ‘capped’ by Principal, Suzanne Fortier, before receiving their academic degree.
Conceptualized and moderated by Paul Zanazanian of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, the recent DISE Research Forum posed the question “is it too late to successfully vitalize English-speaking Quebec?” Panellists included David Birnbaum, Celine Cooper, Diane Gérin-Lajoie, Cheryl Gosselin and Marie McAndrew.
As part of the Faculty of Education's 2015 Spring Convocation ceremony, L. Jacques Ménard, lifelong advocate of the importance of education for all, was selected to receive an honorary degree. "We are honouring... individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds, expertise and experience who are united by their exceptional contributions to improving the lives of so many," said Principal Suzanne Fortier. "I am delighted that mcGill is recognizing their vision, achievements and leadership by awarding them the University's highest honour."
We are celebrating the wrap-up of our season of Artful Inquiry Salons with a potluck garden party.
The event will take place in the new Outdoor Learning Centre/garden space behind the Coach House building.
