Selecting an Education Minor
Before selecting one of the minors in the Faculty of Education, students need to assess whether they can complete the required courses before their expected graduation. Most of the courses or course sections for students in minors are offered in the fall or winter term, but not both. This rarely changes from year to year although the days and times of the course sections may vary.
Students should look carefully at the current schedule of courses on Minerva in order to tentatively plan for the courses for their minor over the terms before graduation. Students need to ensure that completing the Minor is compatible with any plans to do an exchange/study away or internship. Please note that most courses for minors are not offered during the summer.
Registration in Courses for the Minors
Returning students should register in the courses for their minor on the first day that registration opens in the spring since many courses have enrolment limits.
Before registering, students should check the NOTES on Minerva Class Schedule to ensure that they are selecting course sections reserved for students in minors. Some sections are for students in B Ed programs only. These sections are intensive in nature (completed by the middle of the term) and are not normally open to students in the Minor programs.
If you are having difficulty registering in a section reserved for Minors and the course section is not full, please contact Joyce Gaul at the Education Student Affairs Office, 398-7042 or by e-mailing sao [dot] education [at] mcgill [dot] ca
When sections of courses for the Minors are full, students should check the Class Schedule on Minerva on a regular basis since a place may become available in the section that they need.
If a place is not available by the last week in August for Fall Term courses and by mid December for Winter term courses, students should complete a Minerva Worksheet [.doc] and submit it to the appropriate department.
