How do I…? Where is…?
How do I find out where my classes are?
You can find out where your classes are by going to the Registration Menu on Minerva, searching on the Class Schedule for your courses, and looking in the Location column of the course(s).
How do I find out where a building is?
You can go to McGill Maps and search for the building you need.
How do I find out when the first day of class is?
You can find this information and other information about dates and deadlines (such as add/drop, course withdrawal) at Important Dates.
How do I get my McGill email account?
You are given a McGill email address when you confirm your acceptance to McGill. More detailed information can be found at McGill’s IT Services website. You should use your McGill email when contacting any McGill office and you should check your email regularly for messages.
Where do I get an ID card?
You can obtain an ID card at Service Point 24 hours after you have registered in at least one course.
Where do I get a course outline?
You can obtain a course outline on My Courses (McGill’s Learning Management System) after you have registered in the course(s), or your instructor will provide you with one in the class. You can access My Courses from the McGill web page via Quick Links or from MyMcGIll (McGill’s portal).
Where is the library?
There are many libraries at McGill offering a variety of services . The Education Library is located on the first floor of the Education building.
Where do I get proof of registration so that I can get an OPUS card or for RESP purposes?
You can obtain a Proof of Enrolment on Minerva under Student>Student Records.
Where do I get my books?
You can obtain your books (new and second hand) at the McGill bookstore. You can also order your books online for pick up. The course outline will provide information about the textbooks for the course. You can also see this information online.
Where/how do I get a locker in the Education building?
You obtain a locker through the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University (EdUS).
How do I find out about orientation?
Orientation information and sign up is through the First Year Office.
How do I sign up for intramural sports/the gym?
You can find that information on the Athletics website.

How can I try out a schedule before registering?
You can use visual schedule builder (VSB) which can be accessed through myMcGill’s portal.
When do I register?
The date that you can begin to register depends on what Faculty you are in and whether you are a student coming from CEGEP or from outside the province. Check Important Dates to know when you can begin to register and to know when you would be subject to late registration fees. You can change courses until the course change deadline.

How can I see my schedule after I’ve registered?
You can see your schedule on Minerva > Registration> View Personal Weekly Class Schedule. Remember to advance to future weeks to see your schedule at a later point in time.
How can I double check my registration?
You can go to your Unofficial Transcript on Minerva ( Student > Student Records ) and see your registration.
What can I take as a Freshman U0 (out of province) student?
Refer to the Education website for U0 students.
I already have a university degree. What should I register in?
What’s the difference between a departmental adviser, career adviser, and faculty adviser?
The goal of all advisers is to advise, assist and support you. More information about the advisers in Education and their roles is available at www.mcgill.ca/edu-sao/new/advising.
What do I see an adviser for?
The departmental adviser provides you with information about your program and courses through group advising or email.
For specific information about contacting your adviser, refer to Newly admitted Undergraduate Students.
As you progress through your degree you may see an adviser for a variety of reasons.
Who is my adviser and how do I make an appointment?
The name of your advisor will appear at the top of your transcript a few weeks after you have registered.

I plan to work while going to school. How many hours should I work?
You should work a maximum of 8 to 10 hours a week.
What makes me a full or a part time student?
You are a full time student if you are registered in 12 or more credits in a term.
I’m a B Ed student. How do find out what school I’m going to be in for Field Experience?
The Office of Student Teaching places you in your school for field experience and can provide you with that information.
What is EdUS?
EdUS is the Education Undergraduate Society of McGill University (EdUS).
What is McGill Classified?
McGill Classified is an online advertising service available to the McGill community.
Can I transfer to another program if I decide that a B Ed program isn’t the right program for me?
Yes, it is possible for you to transfer to another program. A change to a program outside the Faculty of Education (e.g. B A or a B Com) is an Interfaculty Transfer and requires an application on Minerva. Faculties have different academic requirements for transfer. Deadlines and transfer information.
What is McGill’s portal?
McGill’s portal (MyMcGill) allows you to access many services in one place. You can access it using Quick Links on the McGill website.
What is Minerva?
Minerva is McGill’s online Student Information System where you can register, check your student account, see your unofficial transcript etc.
