Inter/Intra Faculty Transfers and Readmission

Inter-Faculty Transfer

The Faculty of Education welcomes transfer applications from students in other McGill faculties who are currently enrolled in a degree program and will be returning the following fall.

  • For September admission, the application period is from March 1st to June 1st. N.B. late applications will not be considered.  
  • Applications must be made on Minerva (“Student Records Menu” -> “Faculty Transfer/Readmission Menu”) 
  • Decisions are reached by the Internships & Student Affairs Office and are made throughout June and July; students will be notified at their McGill e-mail address when their application status changes
  • Inter-faculty transfer requests are evaluated on the basis of academic standing, the completion of any necessary pre-requisites and the submission of a personal statement

  • If you are registered in the School of Continuing Studies (i.e. not an active student of an undergraduate degree program), you are not eligible for an inter-faculty transfer and must apply directly to the University Admissions Office.

Intra-Faculty Transfer

Students currently registered in a degree program in the Faculty of Education (who will not be graduating in the current academic year) are welcome to transfer to a different program within the Faculty.

Readmission

Former McGill students who wish to return to the University after an absence of one term or more may apply for readmission to either the B.Ed. or B.Sc. Kinesiology degree (provided they have not completed another degree in the interim).

  • For Fall readmission, the application period is from March 1st to July 1st.
  • For Winter readmission, the application period is from October 1st to November 15th

If you are returning from an officially approved Leave of Absence, you do not need to apply for readmission; for questions about your leave of absence, please e-mail sao [dot] education [at] mcgill [dot] ca

If you are returning from a leave due to medical reasons, you will have to have your healthcare provider complete the Healthcare Provider Approval Form. This must be submitted to sao [dot] education [at] mcgill [dot] ca or in person to Room 243.

Simultaneous Readmission and Transfer into Education

If you were in Satisfactory Standing when you left the University (from a Faculty other than Education) and your CGPA is at least 3.0 or higher, you are eligible for consideration for simultaneous readmission and inter-Faculty transfer to Education

If you were in Satisfactory Standing when you left the University (from a Faculty other than Education) and you are applying for readmission and an inter-Faculty transfer, however, your CGPA is less than 3.0, you must return to your original Faculty and raise your CGPA to 3.0 or complete at least 2 courses (6 credits) relevant to your intended field of study at another institution with grades of ‘B’ or better. Official transcripts must be submitted to our offices in advance of the application deadline of July 1st(for Fall) or November 15th(for Winter).

If you left the University in Unsatisfactory Standing and you are applying for readmission and an inter-Faculty transfer, you must complete at least 2 courses (6 credits) relevant to your intended field of study at another institution with grades of ‘B’ or better. Official transcripts must be submitted to our offices in advance of the application deadline of July 1st(for Fall) or November 15th(for Winter).
