DISE Programs Offer French Immersion Certification

As media reports continue to highlight the heightened employability of teachers with French immersion qualifications, both in Quebec and Canada at large, McGill’s Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) has responded with innovations to their teacher education programs.

The new Certificat d'études supérieures en enseignement immersive, a 15-credit graduate certificate, begins in January 2015, and focuses on the pedagogy involved in French immersion teaching at both the Elementary and Secondary levels.

Remembering Adriano Tassone

When their son passed away tragically in 2009, Vincent and Sabina Tassone were determined that Adriano’s legacy of generosity would survive. Adriano Tassone excelled as a defensive back and on-field leader with the McGill Redmen football team while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce with the Desautels Faculty of Management. Mr. and Mrs. Tassone promptly founded two awards that continue to honour Adriano’s name and the spirit of kindness that characterized his gregarious and charismatic personality.

New Scholarships, Fellowships Exalt Arts Education

The P. Lantz Scholarships and Fellowships for Excellence in Education and the Arts are two new opportunities within the Faculty of Education for students in the field of arts education. These endowments are a reflection of donor Pauline Lantz’s (M.Ed 1975) strong belief in the import of arts and music education to the formation of the individual and the community at large.

Howard Gardner Speaks to Full House at Sheraton

Celebrated author and professor in Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, Dr. Howard Gardner’s appearance at Montreal’s Sheraton Centre was an unmitigated success. Over two hundred in attendance, largely educators and devotees of Dr. Gardner’s books, were treated to a lecture on the subject of Gardner’s newest, The App Generation.

PATH’s First Annual Symposium

The McGill Research Centre for Physical Activity and Health (PATH) presented their first annual symposium on Friday, October 3rd at the McGill Faculty Club. Entitled Making Connections, the Centre’s inaugural seminar event gathered prominent researchers from McGill and elsewhere who have an interest in studying the relationship between physical activity and health across a broad spectrum of healthy and diseased states.
