Education students win big at Quebec University Sports Gala


Four students from our faculty were honoured at the 32nd annual Quebec university sports gala on Wednesday. Some 75 cheques totaling $301,500 were issued by the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence at the event, which took place before more than 650 guests at the Sheraton Laval, just north of Montreal. In total, 13 students across the entire university received bursaries.

These included:

  • Nathan Chiarlitti, defenceman and team captain of the McGill Hockey Redmen, and M.Sc. student in exercise physiology with our Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE). Chiarlitti earned a prize for academic excellence and leadership.
  • Tricia Deguire, all-star goaltender with the McGill Hockey Martlets and B.Sc. major in KPE's kinesiology program, who earned a prize for athletic excellence.
  • Marika Labrecque, Marlet Hockey forward and education (kindergarten and secondary) major with our Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), who received a recruitment bursary.
  • Claire Vercheval, McGill volleyball power-hitter who majors in physical and health Education with KPE, earning a prize for athletic excellence.
