Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology (ECP)!

On behalf of my colleagues and our administrative staff, I welcome you to explore the many activities and programs in our department. We remain committed to the advancement of scientific knowledge through research and practice in education and psychology. Recent advances in our understanding and knowledge of human behaviour and development have broad implications for education, development across the lifespan, and our professional programs in school/applied child psychology and counselling psychology. Whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student, our many course offerings and programs will help develop and enhance your knowledge and skills.

Our faculty and graduate students have a diverse range of research expertise. Whether you are interested in atypical behaviour, developmental disorders, reading disorders, integration of handicapped individuals, motivation, learning environments, cognitive processes, developmental neuroscience, the design and evaluation of learning environments and instructional practices, medical education or mental health issues, we offer courses and programs designed to further your knowledge and expertise.

Our students have wide-ranging interests and our graduates are engaged in academic and research settings; professional practice (counselling and school psychology); and specialized and innovative teaching, educational research, development and leadership at all levels (e.g., schools, colleges and universities, school boards, ministries of education).
The Department and faculty members offer a vibrant and exciting opportunity to engage in research, teaching and clinical practice.

We welcome the opportunity to share with you the many research opportunities and programs available.
