Professor Martin Drapeau, M.Ps., Ph.D., is a Clinical Psychologist and Full Professor of Counselling Psychology and of Psychiatry at McGill University, Adjunct Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sherbrooke, and a Researcher affiliated with Équipe RENARD of the University of Montreal, the Qualaxia Network, and the International Center for Comparative Criminology. He is a former Graduate Program Director for Counselling Psychology at McGill University. Former FRSQ Research Scholar, he has also served as Vice President of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec, Project Director at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, Canadian representative on the Council of Representatives of the American Psychological Association, and Editor of Canadian Psychology, the Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science, Psychology, and Science & Practice. Dr. Drapeau has served on numerous taskforces of the Canadian Psychological Association, the Ministry of Health, the College of Psychologists, the Canadian Council of Academies, and the National Institute for Excellence in Health and Social Services. He is an elected member of the College of New Scholars of the Royal Society of Canada, and has received awards from the Society for Psychotherapy Research, McGill University, the Canadian Psychological Association, as well as from various other universities and other organizations. He has published in the area of psychotherapy process and of psychopathology, and has an active research program on knowledge dissemination and best practices in psychology and psychotherapy, including on clinical practice guidelines. He is the Director of the McGill Psychotherapy Process Research Group (MPPRG) and Co-director of the McGill Science and Practice in Psychology (SAPP) Research Lab. He also leads the Best Practices in Psychology Initiative that makes clinical resources and other important information available to practitioners. With over 200 publications and over 250 scientific presentations, Dr. Drapeau has received research funding from CIHR, SSHRC, DAAD, FRQSC, FRQS, APsyA, MDEIE, CFI, IPRF, the Graham Boeckh Foundation, CPA, and other organisations.
Dr. Drapeau is also the founder, with Dr. Marilyn Fitzpatrick, Professor Emerita at McGill University, of Medipsy Psychological Services, a clinic situated in Montreal that offers both clinical services and training to mental health practitioners. Medipsy also offers practicum and internship placements to students (M.A. and Doctorate) from numerous universities. McGill Counselling Psychology students wishing to receive clinical supervision (e.g., EDPC 625, EDPC 665) from Dr. Drapeau may register for one of his groups through the usual registration process. Dr. Drapeau has been practicing clinically for close to 25 years. He specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and of personality disorders. His approach is somewhat eclectic, with a focus on cognitive behavioral interventions for anxiety and depression, and on psychodynamic interventions for personality disorders.
