Dr. Zahra Karim-Aghaloo won the 2015 CIPPRS Doctoral Dissertation Award

Congratulations to recent ECE PhD graduate Dr. Zahra Karim-Aghaloo for winning the 2015 Doctoral Dissertation Award sponsored by the Canadian Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Society (CIPPRS). She received this award at the 12th Canadian Conference on Computer and Robot Vision held in June 2015 in Halifax, NS.

Prof. Zetian Mi received the International Symposium for Compound Semiconductors Young Scientist Award

Congratutations are in order for Prof. Zetian Mi, who received the International Symposium for Compound Semiconductors (ISCS) Young Scientist Award. Prof. Mi was given this award for his contributions to the development of quantum dot and nanowire based near-infrared, deep visible, and ultraviolet light sources.

Established in 1986, the Young Scientist award acknowledges technical achievements in the field of compound semiconductors by a scientist younger than 40 years on the first day of the ISCS.

Well done Zetian!

  • 1st prize: “Solar Streetlight”:  Victoria Hippoman, Jake Jarnik and Alexander MacDonald; supervisor Gordon Roberts
  • 2nd prize: “Software and Hardware Design for Robotically Controlled TMS experiments”: Ashley Simpson and James Ta; supervisor Amir Shmuel
  • 3rd prize: “Intravehicular Communication Security Testbed”: Quang Dao, Shabbir Hussain, Ryan Singzon and Lulu Wu; supervisor Brett Meyer

The winners were honoured at a small reception held on April 21st 2015.

Prof. Thomas Szkopek to receive the Carrie M. Derick Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Supervision

The Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Prof. Andrew Kirk, is proud to announce that Prof. Thomas Szkopek has won the Carrie M. Derick Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Supervision. This is in recognition of Prof. Szkopek's devoted efforts in working with his graduate students. This is very well deserved.
